When God looks at you he says, “Yes, you can!” God believes in your ability. He created you and knows better than anyone else what you are capable of doing. He wants you to become far more than you have ever dreamed of becoming. You are his unique creation and there will never be another one just like you. God told the prophet Jeremiah, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and notto harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). Paul told us that “if God is for us, who can be against us.” Jesus said, “Yes, you can!” to twelve disciples and a hand full of women who followed him and they changed the world. Just like he believed in them, he believes in you. If you love others you will encourage them with “Yes, you can!” and when you do you will be following in the footsteps of Jesus.
Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to encourage others by saying, as many times as it takes, "Yes, you can!" And, unlike the Mission Impossible series, your mission is absolutely possible. I read recently that every time a child is demeaned by a negative comment it takes seven positive comments to erase the negative one. That means that you are probably going to have to say, yes you can, over and over again to those who have been hearing “No, you can’t.” all their life.
When Moses made his first attempt to deliver the Israelites from bondage, Egypt’s King Ramses said, “No, you can’t.” He drove Moses out of Egypt and Moses spent 40 years on the back side of the desert believing he couldn’t do it. But, God miraculously showed up in a burning bush and said, “Yes, you can!” David heard Goliaths’ challenge for a man to face him in battle and he decided to accept the challenge. His brother told him to forget about it and go back home to your sheep. But, David knew God had said, “Yes, you can!” so he took some smooth stones and a slingshot and went into action against all odds. Goliath lost his head over it. Mary Magdalene was in a terrible state when she met Jesus. She had seven demons controlling her life, telling her she was no good. She was no doubt despondent, suicidal, and completely without hope. But Jesus has never met a person he doesn't love, so he said, “Yes, you can be free!" and he delivered her from the bondage of evil forces that were destroying her life and chose her to be the first one to witness his resurrection. WOW!
All through life people hear, repeatedly, until they start believing it, “No, you can’t.” You can change that. You can be one of the people that acts like God and tells them, “Yes, you can!” You can tell them you believe in them. You can tell them that they are made in the image of God and anyone patterned after Him is cable of accomplishing extraordinary things. You can be the encouragement they need. You can be the catalyst that gives them the hope of a brighter future. You can be the one who says, “Ye,s you can accomplish your dream! Don’t ever give up.” If you’re a parent, you can be a cheerleader for your kids. If you’re a boss, you can be the positive influence your team needs to spur them on to greater heights. If you know someone who thinks God has forgotten them and they have given up on ever having a loving relationship with him, you can tell them God never gives up on anyone and has never met a person he doesn't love.
If you love others you will say, “Yes you can!”
